Ceceily Maraya is the owner of not one but two businesses here in Atlanta! One is Ceceily Maraya Style Agency
and the recently launched boutique Brand’d by Maraya
. Keep reading to learn a little bit more about the powerhouse behind both these brands.
1. What was the reason you chose to be a stylist as a profession?
Becoming a personal stylist wasn’t my first professional choice! Styling was something I had always done and it came very naturally to me. So after years of doing it for free or as a side hustle I decided to take myself more seriously and opened Ceceily Maraya Style Agency in 2018.
2. How long have you been in business?
I celebrated a year in business August 10, 2019!
3. Did you feel intimidated or overwhelmed entering into the fashion industry?
Actually, yes and no! I started in fashion retail sales at the age of 15 and had the privilege of working with amazing managers that really helped mold me into the business owner I am today! I think many people see only the glitz and glam of certain parts of the fashion industry and create false expectations of those of us who take a different approach. I always knew that I would be a fashion entrepreneur that thought alone was overwhelming and intimidating because I knew that I had to create my own lane and stand in it boldly and trust God with it.
4. Where did your interest in styling come from?
I simply fell into styling. My grandmother always was dressed flawlessly and I absolutely loved everything she wore and I was inspired. Growing up I would always get a call from a friend or family member asking me to help them with selecting something to wear or would I go shopping with them. Once I started working in retail I noticed even my co-workers and managers would ask my opinion on customers who were shopping and desired my input. So after awhile I started studying colors, fabrics, silhouettes, etc to understand on a deeper level what I was doing.
5. How have you been received by the fashion community thus far and how would you like to see that reception grow?
Since moving to Atlanta this past February it has been such an amazing experience there are some really amazing fashion influencers, entrepreneurs, and aspiring stylist that I have had the privilege to meet and network with them and I have been received well in such a short period of time. I’m looking forward to the future.
6.What other certifications and services do you endeavor to include in the future?
I now own an online boutique Brand’d by Maraya
. My goal as an entrepreneur is to be of service to women who desire more than fast fashion and those who want stylish items without feeling as if they need to follow the trends.
7. If you had to give a vital piece of advice to someone interested in entering this industry what would it be?
Be ready and willing to work for FREE, never stop learning, always be an asset in whatever way possible.
8. What is your ultimate business goal?
My desire is to own three business within the fashion industry from personal styling, boutique and design.
9. What is your word of advice for any woman with a desire to begin a business?
Just do it! Do it with fear, anxiety, and boldness! It’s going to take a part of you that you may not even know is there, but you have to do! Invest in your dream and just do it!
