I am always a fan of women being in business for themselves; that’s why I chose to create the Curvy Spotlight section of my blog so that I could highlight them. I am particularly fond of women who strive to create an inclusive environment for larger bodies; which is why it brings me so much joy to introduce you to the owner of Apples Peaches Pears Boutique.
Tameisha is the owner of the Apples Peaches Pears Boutique. Keep reading below to learn a little more about her and her business goals!
1. What was the reason you chose to get into fashion retail as a profession?
I’ve had a love for fashion since being a preteen. Due to circumstances at that time I had to sew and create a lot of my clothing. It set an early passion. I’ve always had the drive toward entrepreneurship. Putting both together was my dream.
2. How long have you been in business?
I have had my business for a little over a year but stepped fully in within the last 4 to 5 months.
3. Did you feel intimidated or overwhelmed entering into the fashion industry?
Overwhelmed, yes because I am really an introverted person with a bit of extrovert characteristics. I also suffer from anxiety so all of that combined requires a lot of time recharging to deal with people outside of my immediate surroundings. Throw in chronic illness and it becomes an emotional and physical roller coaster trying to keep up.
4. Where did your interest in fashion come from?
My interest in fashion came from wanting to look nice and trendy when financially we didn’t have the means to.
5. How have you been received by the fashion industry/community thus far and how would you like to see that reception grow?
So far I feel as though I’ve been embraced especially by people I have followed and has inspired me. (You) I would like to do more collabs and grow my business more. I honestly say I don’t want to be known but more so my brand. I want to gain wealth not riches nor fame. There’s a difference. Wealth for me is the goal. I want my kids, kids to be set for life. Wealth is more than fame and money. It is setting and leaving a legacy that others can achieve their goals from. I would like to show that people of a larger size are not abnormal. I would like to shake up thee plus size fashion industry. If we’re being honest models that are chosen or shown modeling plus size brands is the plus size women with smaller waist, big booties, smooth skin, etc.. I want to show plus size women with disabilities, differences that may look extreme. I want to show those individuals that look like me as models, modeling clothing that I made or have interest in.
6.What other services do you endeavor to include in the future?
Honestly, I do many things. Like a Jack or Jill of all trades lol but I want to make my mark in fashion. Fashion of all arenas. Both designer and affordable. I like interior designing. I love crafting. I love styling men. That is my next area to tackle. Though, it’s a little more difficult than producing women clothing. Big and Tall men clothing and reworked clothing is on my to do list for the rest of the year and 2020. Gods willing.
7. If you had to give a vital piece of advice to someone interested in entering this industry what would it be?
Patience. Be anxious about nothing and when you are anxious make no moves, no decisions until your spirit settles. Trust in the Lord and if you don’t believe in God. Find something that can hold you accountable but also give you peace.
8. What is your ultimate business goal?
My ultimate business goal is to have a business with many departments all designed by me or people around me. I want to give opportunities to people. Employ people with the same goals and aspirations as me but gave their own ideas that they will like to produce.
9. What is your word of advice for any woman with a desire to begin a business?
My advice would be write your vision and your mission make it plain. Have everything written down to the very little details and pray on it. I feel like being organized is also important especially for me. Having a work space that is just for work is very imperative as well. Our minds tend to get disarray and when that happens so does our space and everything else.
1. Old school R&B or New School R&B? Hmph it depends.. Can I say both? Lol
2. Vacation on an island or in the mountains? Definitely Island.
3. Michael Jordan or LeBron James? Ha! Neither but if I had to choose LeBron.
