Happy Weekend ya’ll! I’m so grateful to have made it through another work week unscathed. These days I find myself being ultra thankful for the little things. Dealing with the physical issues I am has me putting a whole new spin on life. But that’s not what I’m here for today folks!
If you’ve read the title, then I think you know I’m getting ready to drop a little knowledge on my aspiring and burgeoning bloggers. I’m also officially sharing a really great pair of pants I bought from eShakti back in March. Call me efficient if you must.
Whether you’re a blogger aficionado or a newbie on the block, the tips below are still worth reminding yourself of! I’ve been on the blogger block for a decade now, I think it’s safe to say I know a little somethin’ somethin’!
#1 Be Yourself
That may sound like a no-brainer, but I can’t even count how many bloggers I see doing the exact opposite. As I brought out in another blog article ; social media has really expanded blogger reach. This means that there is a one stop shop of bloggers available to view! And while I love the diverse options, often times, bloggers begin to lose their originality by emulating other bloggers that they see.
All things that are trendy are not great. That’s just a fact. But when you begin to clamor to keep up with what’s “in” or new; you lose the very essence of what makes you you! And chances are, your readers didn’t come to your blog because you were like everyone else. Remember that!
#2 Be Consistent
I know that this can be a tough one! As a mama of 3, a wife and having a full time job; I KNOW how difficult it can be to create a regular schedule to create content.
However, if you want to be taken seriously as a blogger, you have to have content available for your readers. Now how much content is right for your blog? No one can answer that for you but you. You have bloggers who will say 3xs a week, and other’s who would say more, and yet and still some who would say less. Only you know what you’re capable of based on your schedule. My humble suggestion is to at least post a minimum of 1once a month. I say this because most magazines come out monthly- and that’s consistent enough for their readers to continue to come back.
#3 Don’t Be Afraid to Be Honest
Your blog is your space, your platform which you’ve created because you felt like you had something to say. Don’t you want what you say to be your truth?
Painting a pretty picture is easy, and if the picture is pretty well then paint that! But chances are you’re human (unless you know something I don’t), which means you experience ups and downs, and that gives your voice a unique perspective; use it!
#4 Don’t Be Afraid to Get Your Coins
Every blogger is not in blogging for the business side of things; but if you find yourself traveling down that lane well then, lets chat.
Blogging can segue into an alternative source of income; and if you’re hardworking enough, it can lead to multiple streams of income. When brands begin to realize that you have the ability to sell; they may offer you a deal. Or you may begin to recognize your own talent and pitch to a brand. Whatever way it happens, you should ask to be compensated appropriately.
Free clothes are nice, but compensation is even better. If you’re taking the time to write a blog article, share a photo and basically advertise for a brand; you should have no qualms about asking to be compensated. Whether you set a fee for sponsored posts, or agree to affiliate paid per click or sale options; GET YOUR MONEY.
#5 Do Your Research
The business of blogging can change from one day to the next. It’s important to know how those things are relevant to what you do.
Software changes, terms and conditions, domain licensing, privacy policies, updates etc. can have an effect on what you do. Perhaps there’s opportunities available to you in the industry of blogging that you’re in; but how are you to know that if you’re not researching? Google is your best friend (or whatever search engine you use). If you’re looking for ways to capitalize on your blogging career, you have to grab the bull by the horns so to speak.
If you’re reading this and you’ve made it this far, take my tips with a grain of salt. I know that everything is not for everybody. But, having come to a place in my journey of blogging where I’ve found a modicum of accomplishment, I’m sharing what I know has been effective for me.
So how about you my fellow bloggers, what tips do you live by in your blogging careers?
