Here are my answers to her questions (I hope these answers don’t disappoint lol):
What’s the best thing a blogger can give to his readers?
I’d have to say transparency and honesty. There are a lot of bloggers in this world; but I find myself gravitating towards those who can be candid or raw no matter the topic. I try to do the same for my readers so there’s a real connection. I think when a blogger blogs from a real place, a vulnerable place; I can relate more and I more inclined to stick around.
What has been your strategy for creating visibility to yourself and your blog?
Hmm. That’s a good question. I’d have to say word of mouth. I’ve recently started utilizing my Instagram to promote my page and blog posts. I even set up a Facebook (though I haven’t quite figured out how to extend it’s reach so maybe I’m not the person to answer this question lol) to share posts and interact with people. But really, like I mentioned first, it’s been word of mouth and lots of name dropping my website!
Name some of the bloggers whom you look up to and why?
I’ve always been a big fan of Chasity Garner of Garner Style because she was one of the first plus size fashion bloggers I’d ever seen. My husband directed me to her blog and page and I was in such awe over her confidence. Through her I found Maui Bigelow of Phat Girl Fresh, and Marie Denee of The Curvy Fashionista. I loved seeing curvy women of color being unapologetically bold. O! I also love Flight of the Fat Girl; she definitely was a huge encouragement a few years ago when I first considered blogging fashion.
What do you find most challenging about blogging about your topic?
What I find most challenging is that I cover a few different topics. I am a mom and wife, a plus size woman who loves fashion, a mental health awareness advocate as well as a person battling Hashimoto’s. It’s difficult sometimes switching between the various hats because people tend to want you to be one thing. Despite that type of pressure; I’m determined to write about all of those things because that’s who I am!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am currently 32 years old, married mom of 3. I am an Executive Assistant by day and a mad blogger by day and night. I love sushi, grilled octopus and my favorite beverage is water (only second to coffee). I am also a published poet and fiction writer. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety since I was 9 which is why I advocate so heavily. I sing and I love ALL types of music including country. Random strange fact about me? I have to be naked to take a number 2! lol
What would be your ideal environment?
Sitting by the water. I looooooove water. It’s serene and therapeutic to me.
How do you want to improve yourself in the next year?
After my thyroidectomy, I hope to lose a few pounds, and hopefully be on the path to self employment doing what I love.
Tell me about your proudest achievement?
After dropping out of high school my senior year because I was pregnant; I’d have to say my greatest achievement was returning to school a year later and completing my GED. A lot of people frown on that but I scored a perfect score which is not as easy as many may think it is.
What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?
Lol well my proudest achievement I mentioned was not blog related so I’ll say having 3 beautiful healthy children after 8 losses.
What’s your best advice for making money online?
I couldn’t tell you lol I honestly just wing it. Do what works for you. Maybe my answer will be different in another year.
If a kid walked up to asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?
LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS! You don’t know it now, but in 10 or 20 years, you will know they are mostly right.
