DIY “Lava Jars”

I won’t call these lava lamps for lack of lighting. I saw this on http://www.quirkymomma.com and thought my babies would appreciate it. They have been begging for the real deal after all. Lol after doing this nifty project I’m probably going to get them some. Anyway, without further ado:

Materials:

  • Vegetable oil
  • Country jars
  • Water
  • Food coloring
  • Antacid tabs

Directions:

Pour the water in the bottom of the jar; about 3/4 cups. Then pour the vegetable oil until it almost reaches the top. Next, squeeze a generous amount of food coloring drops in the jar (maybe about 9 drops). Last but not least, add the Antacid tabs and VOILA! watch the magic show!

Below I am sharing my very unedited footage of my kids and I doing this! Tell me if you can spot the ham! LOL I hope all you mommies try it out and have as much fun as we did!

  1. omg, that looks so fun. now, this one is easy. i am such a semi-lazy DIY mom.
but ever since i decided to add one science experiment a week to our home-school curriculum, i knew i needed to up my game. THIS one is doable and uber cool (can i just say that i laughed out loud to “country jars” being one of the items!)
